Course Syllabus

Hello Students,

I am Mrs. Norris and I will be teaching 7th grade English. In this class you will be expected to learn (and use) correct grammar, mechanics (capitalization, punctuation, spelling, etc.), verb tense, subject/verb agreement and  correct parts of speech in all of your writing assignments. We will work through these as we go. We will write three major essays throughout this year: informational, narrative, and persuasive during the first semester.

During the second semester we will concentrate on argumentative writing, kinds/types of sentences, and more subject verb/agreement. The last grading period we will be writing a narrative in the form of a book.

As a result of this class, you will be able to:

-compose four types of essays

-discuss the differences between kinds of sentences

-exhibit correct usage of subject/verb agreement

-exhibit correct usage of writing mechanics

-know the Eight Parts of Speech and use them correctly.

NOTE: IF ASSIGNMENTS ARE TURNED IN AFTER THE DUE DATE, YOU WILL RECEIVE 1/2 CREDIT. DUE DATES ARE POSTED IN DAILY ANNOUNCEMENTS, CANVAS, OR KAMI, AND I WILL TELL YOU ORALLY. MOST, BUT NOT ALL, ASSIGNMENTS ARE OPEN FROM TUESDAY THRU FRIDAY.

GRADING SYSTEM: WHEN I GRADE AN ASSIGNMENT IN CANVAS, OR KAMI, I THEN LOG THE GRADES INTO MY GRADE BOOK. THEN THE GRADES MUST BE ENTERED IN SKYWARD. CANVAS, KAMI, AND SKYWARD DO NOT CONNECT TO EACH OTHER; THEREFORE, IT TAKES SEVERAL DAYS FOR PARENTS TO SEE SOME GRADES APPEAR IN SKYWARD. PARENTS MAY SEE AN ASSIGNMENT HAS BEEN GRADED IN CANVAS, BUT WILL NOT SEE IT IN SKYWARD AT THE SAME TIME.
